Massetto Kalce BS

Natural hydraulic lime screed mix for thin screeds.

Fiber-reinforced concrete mix based on NHL 3.5 natural hydraulic lime and selected aggregates compliant with UNI EN 13139 (aggregates for mortar), for screeds in residential buildings, applied in thicknesses above 15 mm.

Massetto Kalce BS is extremely workable: thanks to its carefully designed 0-2 mm grading curve, it spreads easily and effortlessly in thicknesses from 15 mm to 40 mm. It bonds extremely well to the substrate and is very cohesive just 24 h after laying. It dries fairly quickly: after two weeks of curing in normal conditions, wood, carpet or tiles can be laid. It is particularly suitable over radiant floor heating, especially where floor levels allow a total screed thickness of only 4 cm.

Massetto Kalce BS gives the floor:

  • excellent thermal conductivity;
  • high heat storage capacity;
  • lower thermal inertia than traditional sand and cement screeds;
  • excellent compatibility with radiant floor heating systems.

Other features:

  • no shrinkage or loss of thickness in the plastic phase;
  • excellent bond to the substrate, even when smooth and poorly absorbent;
  • greater flexibility than traditional sand and cement screeds;
  • good abrasion resistance and high durability against the weather;
  • contains no solvents or substances harmful to health;
  • selected aggregates with a maximum size below 2 mm make thin applications easier and ensure the mix settles perfectly around the radiant heating pipes.

Key features:

  • very low VOC content and class A+ under the French VOC – CMR Regulation;
  • high elasticity and ease of application, not rigid;
  • adds mass and heat storage capacity, but with lower thermal inertia than traditional sand and cement screeds;
  • reversible and compatible with historic masonry;
  • fully disposable and recyclable at end of life.

Massetto Kalce BS is used for screeds in residential buildings more than 15 mm thick. There is no maximum thickness, although above 40 mm traditional screeds with a larger maximum grain size can be used. It is ideal for variable-thickness screeds over uneven subfloors, thin screeds over radiant floor heating, and sloped screeds.

Massetto Kalce BS is spread directly on floor structures or existing screeds wherever thicknesses of 40 mm or less are needed to match the finished floor levels. Any type of flooring can be laid on the hardened, dry screed: tiles, wood, carpet, linoleum, plastic floor coverings, etc. Do not lay it on lightweight insulating screeds or on ordinary insulation boards/panels.

The main applications are summarized below:

  • Variable-thickness repair screeds more than 15 mm thick over existing natural hydraulic lime screeds;
  • Screeds on even historic concrete or brick substrates, 15 mm to 40 mm thick;
  • Sloped or build-up screeds over existing natural hydraulic lime screeds, historic concrete or even brick substrates, more than 15 mm thick;
  • Screeds over radiant floor heating with a total thickness of 40 mm or more.
